ecoRoute was present at the regional conference “THALASSA 2024 – Marine Science Conference”, which took place on 28 and 29 May 2024 in Larnaca, Cyprus. The conference was under the auspices of the Cyprus Institute of Marine and Maritime Research (CMMI) and an EMD In My Country 2024 event also endorsed by the Ocean Decade Actions as part of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. Thalassa 2024 brought together experts and stakeholders from academia, research institutes, industry, NGOs, and the public sector who shared views on several topics including Marine & Coastal Ecosystems, Marine Biotechnology & Aquaculture, Oceanography, Marine and Coastal Governance as well as Marine Cultural Heritage. The Thalassa 2024 conference was an important opportunity to raise awareness of the cultural and socio-economic value of the Underwater Cultural and Natural Heritage and about the challenges of the marine environment, aiming at the active engagement of stakeholders and citizens.
Atlantis Consulting participated in Thalassa 2024 and presented the ecoRoute project during the 5th session on the theme “Marine Cultural Heritage”. While analyzing different integrated approaches that enhance the protection and sustainable valorization of Underwater Cultural and Natural Heritage, we showcased ecoRoute scope and methods towards the sustainable management of maritime heritage sites and the development of a “smart” thematic tourism activity in coastal areas and islands in the ecoRoute regions.
