On 28 February 2025, the ecoRoute Workshop for Maritime Tourism Operators took place in Funchal, Madeira, at the auditorium of the Centre for Atlantic History Studies – Alberto Vieira (CEHA).
Organised by CEAM – Centre for the Study of Modern and Contemporary Archaeology, the workshop brought together project partners and professionals active in the marine, tourism, environmental, and cultural sectors.
The event provided an opportunity to present the ecoRoute project, its objectives, and the archaeological and environmental research carried out in Madeira in recent years. Participants engaged in discussions on the management and conservation of underwater cultural and natural heritage, emphasizing the importance of cross-sector collaboration.
A key focus of the workshop was the exchange of knowledge and perspectives among stakeholders, aiming to foster synergies and good practices for the sustainable management of marine environments. The session concluded with an open debate, enriched by participants’ contributions through an interactive questionnaire using the Mentimeter platform.
By bringing together diverse stakeholders, the workshop highlighted the collective responsibility of protecting underwater heritage and reinforced the importance of collaboration in ensuring its preservation for future generations.
