From 18 to 22 June 2025, the ecoRoute participated in the Maravilha Festival with a dedicated stand focused on the sea and its cultural and natural heritage.
Throughout the festival, visitors were invited to explore the underwater heritage of the Azores through a small exhibition featuring shipwrecks and submerged archaeological sites, offering insights into the region’s rich maritime history.
A key highlight of the stand was the presentation of the transforMAR project, where live demonstrations showcased innovative machines capable of transforming marine plastic waste collected during coastal clean-ups into new, usable materials. This initiative emphasized the importance of circular solutions in addressing marine pollution.
The space also featured part of the exhibition “Azorean marine litter: where do you come from?”, developed by Faial Natural Park wardens Dejalme Vargas and Walter Medeiros. The exhibition highlighted the global dimension of marine pollution, illustrating how waste travels across oceans and connects distant regions—from the Azores to countries such as the USA, Canada, Morocco, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Spain.
Through its participation in the festival, ecoRoute successfully engaged with visitors, raising awareness about marine conservation, underwater cultural heritage, and the need for collective action to protect our oceans.
